The Creation of Council #1107

The history of Council #1107 is a story of a group of faithfilled men, working together to make a difference through times of adversity, and times of great prosperity. Following the formation of Vancouver #1081 in March, 1906, four Knights who were members of Winnipeg’s Catholic Club, began their important work in building the foundation for a Winnipeg Council that would set the wheels of Columbianism in motion throughout western Canada.

Following proposals to the membership of the Catholic Club, and a request to the St. Paul, Minnesota Knights of Columbus Council to send an organizer to survey the field, a group of 97 enthusiastic men signed up to embark on this new venture. On April 28, 1906, the Initiation Degree Team from St. Paul arrived to conduct the exemplification for the new Winnipeg Council #1107.  The ceremony was attested by the Worthy Supreme Knight, Edward L. Hearn:

It was a glorious day, April 28th, 1906 when the Order of the Knights of Columbus made its first organized appearance at the "Gateway to West" - St. Paul Minnesota Council's superb Degree Team initiated ninety-seven candidates and the parent Council in Manitoba, Winnipeg Council commenced its long record of service to Mother Church, Country and Community.

In the decades that followed, the Council known as “the Mother Council of western Canada” worked toward the establishment of Councils in Northwestern Ontario, Saskatchewan, Alberta and throughout neighbouring U.S. States. Over these many years, this faithful brotherhood has weathered many challenges and achieved great successes, strengthened by Faith, and a focus on the principles of Unity, Fraternity, Charity and Patriotism
